Postdoctoral Researcher and Associate Director

Jason M. Jones, PhD
Dr. Jones graduated from Morehouse College with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He went on to earn a Master of Science in Psychology and later a Doctor of Philosophy in Personality Psychology from Howard University. As a trained personality psychologist, his research focus aims to understand the personality development and well-being of Blacks and African Americans by exploring their storied lives and personalized goals. His Master’s thesis focused on African American emerging college students’ personal strivings and how they’re related to academic satisfaction. He has also theoretically deconstructed the goal-oriented behaviors of Black and African American National Basketball Association (NBA) and National Football League (NFL) athletes, leading to his dissertation where he conducted a personality psychobiographical exploration of Black former NFL players’ personalized goals and well-being.
His research may not only lead to theoretical enhancement and future research in personality psychology, but can also be used for retirement planning and promoting well-being in professional athletes. After completing his doctorate, he worked in the healthcare industry at Ascension – one of the leading non-profit Catholic health systems in the U.S. He worked alongside consultants within the Organizational Development and Learning Department to improve associate experiences and increase diversity and inclusion practices among physicians. Currently, he is a postdoctoral research associate at Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. His research focus uses a mixed-method approach to further explore and understand intimate partner violence (IPV) perpetration and victimization among Black college students.
